A ruthless second half display from Chelsea saw them emerge 3-0 victors at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
After a frenzied first period in which the Blues struggled to find their rhythm, the introduction of N’Golo Kante swung the game in his side’s favour and goals from the Frenchman as well as defenders Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger sealed the three points
The win boosts Thomas Tuchel’s side to top of the table, level on points with Liverpool and Manchester United, and extends their unbeaten start to the campaign.
A minute’s applause took place at the start of the match to commemorate Jimmy Greaves, a legendary centre forward for both sides who had died earlier that day aged 81.
It was a frantic opening to the match with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side posing problems for a Chelsea backline that had started the season so formidably, conceding only one goal in their first four games.
With Spurs looking threatening on the break with the pace of the returning Heung-Min Son and vision of Harry Kane, Tuchel made a change at half-time as he replaced Mason Mount with Kante.
Immediately, the West London side looked more comfortable and took the lead four minutes into the second half with a header from Thiago Silva.
On 57 minutes, 30-year-old Kante took a shot from the edge of the area which took a wicked deflection off Eric Dier, wrong-footed Hugo Lloris and went in via the post, doubling Chelsea’s advantage.
The visitors continued to dominate proceedings, launching attack after attack and finally found their third in added time as Rudiger smashed home.
It was another big statement from the European Champions who have firmly cemented themselves as one of the favourites to win the league this season.
Meanwhile Tottenham, who had a 100% record at the end of August, have lost their previous two league matches 3-0 and sink to seventh.
