A superb double from Patrick Schick secured Czech Republic a 2-0 win over Scotland in their Euro 2020 Group D clash.

A terrific header and sensational long-range strike from the Bayer Leverkusen striker saw Jaroslav Silhavy’s side tear up the script at Hampden Park.

It is the first time Scotland have competed in the European Championship in 25 years and the prospect of their first match taking place in their own 51,000-capacity stadium had created a sense of expectation in the build-up to the game.

What transpired however was a frustrating day with Lydon Dykes, Scot McTominay, John McGinn and captain Andy Robertson all spurning golden chances throughout the game.

An organised and clinical Czech side were too much for the Tartans and Schick stole the headlines with a well-taken header just before half-time before an outrageous 40-yard strike soared over stranded keeper David Marshall and wrapped up the three points.

It was the game Steve Clarke’s side knew they had to win if they wanted the best chance of making it out of a tricky group, also including England and Croatia.

Meanwhile, an unfancied Czech Republic side showed what they were about and know that a win over Croatia on Friday will all but seal qualification to the knockout stages.
