Everton surrendered two points late on in a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.

A 56th minute strike from James Rodriguez put the Toffees ahead before Michy Batshuayi levelled for the Eagles four minutes from time.

Carlo Ancelotti was left frustrated at the missed opportunity for his side to strengthen their bid for the top four with the draw meaning they remained five points adrift in eighth.

Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were gifted numerous golden scoring chances throughout the match but a combination of wasteful finishing and superb saves from Vicente Guaita denied them.

The breakthrough finally came for Everton 11 minutes into the second half through a crisp, accurate finish from James Rodriguez, who returned to the starting line-up after a groin strain.

However, the hosts were unable to maintain their advantage as Batshuayi capitalised on Michael Keane’s error and equalised just two minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Everton’s poor home form, one win in their last eight at home, looks set to cost them a place in the Champions League next season.

One positive in an otherwise infuriating evening for the Toffees was the return of Jean-Philippe Gbamin who replaced Rodriguez on 79 minutes after over 18 months out on the sidelines.
