Kai Havertz inspired Chelsea to a convincing 2-0 victory over top four challengers Everton.

The German playmaker had a hand in both goals as his shot deflected off Ben Godfrey putting the home side in front after half an hour before winning the penalty that was put away by Jorginho in the second half.

The win means Thomas Tuchel’s side remain unbeaten in the league since the former PSG manager took charge and are also yet to concede at home in that time.

Everton went into this match aiming to get their first win at Stamford Bridge since 1994 but were hindered by the absence of the influential Abdoulaye Doucoure who Carlo Ancelotti says will be out with injury until at least the international break.

The side from West London dominated possession and were rewarded on 31 minutes when Marcos Alonso was unmarked in the Toffees area and his cross was finished off by Havertz via the leg of Godfrey.

Ancelotti changed formation several times in hope of trying to secure a spell of pressure against his former side but was unsuccessful and the contest was over on 65 minutes when Jordan Pickford brought down Havertz and Jorginho converted from twelve yards.

Chelsea subsequently pulled four points away from Everton who are one of their main challengers for the final Champions League spot.

Meanwhile the Toffees drop down to sixth behind West Ham and will be hoping their favourable run of fixtures will see them break the top four for the first time since 2005.
