MATCH REPORT: CATALANS DRAGONS 38-30 LEIGH LEOPARDS

Tom Johnstone’s 100th career Super League try helped Catalans Dragons move two points clear at the top of the table.

It was hard-fought match against Leigh Leopards, who have also started the season well, but the league’s leading try scorer helped his side triumph 38-30.

Steve McNamara’s side made an outstanding start to proceedings as tries from Arthur Mourgue and Benjamin Garcia, which were both converted by the former, gave the Perpignan outfit a commanding lead after just four minutes.

Johnstone then earned his own personal accolade to extend his side’s lead before the visitors responded, with Ed Chamberlain's double and Josh Charnley's try bringing the score back to 20-18 at half-time.

Arthur Romano’s try extended his side’s advantage almost immediately after the break but Leigh then turned the affair on its head and scores from Edwin Ipape and Tom Briscoe saw them poke their noses in front for the first time.

But the Dragons prevailed in the end with tries from Johnstone and Garcia in the final 14 minutes giving their side the win.

Defeat for second-placed Warrington Wolves at Castleford made victory for the Dragons all the more sweeter as the two points sees them become outright leaders of the Super League.
