Everton convincingly won 2-0 over Brighton to extend their impressive start to the campaign.

Demarai Gray bagged his second goal for the Toffees in only his third start before a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty on his 150th Premier League appearance wrapped up the three points for the Toffees.

It puts an end to their dismal run at the Amex Stadium where they have failed to win in their previous four attempts and boosts them to fourth in the table.

Gray fired the visitors ahead on 41 minutes with a piercing run followed by a fierce strike that further justified the cut-price fee that it took them to prise him away from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

Calvert-Lewin made it three goals in the opening three games of the league season with an incisive 58th minute spot kick, doubling the lead for Rafael Benitez’s side.

The day was slightly soured for Everton by Richarlison’s frustration at not being able to take the penalty himself and indeed the Brazilian could have won one himself when Adam Webster appeared to pull his arm, but Jon Moss remained unmoved.

But on the whole, it was a successful day’s work for the Blues who make it three wins and a draw in their opening four matches of the campaign.
