Brentford won promotion to the Premier League with a comfortable 2-0 play-off win over Swansea City.
An Ivan Toney penalty and an Emiliano Marcondes strike within the first 20 minutes were enough for the victory and secured top-flight football for the Bees for the first time since 1947.
A miserable day at Wembley for the Welsh side was compounded by Jay Fulton’s dismissal on 65 minutes and their three-year stay in the Championship continues.
Thomas Frank’s side went into the match as strong favourites and gained the advantage when Bryan Mbuemo was brought down by keeper Freddie Woodman and Toney stroked home his 33rd goal of the season from 12 yards.
Ten minutes later, Marcondes finished off a clinical Brentford counter-attack with a crisp shot to double his side’s advantage and it was a lead they never looked losing.
Toney almost added another just moments later when his audacious 20-yard volley smacked the crossbar and bounced agonisingly away from goal.
Andre Ayew had the Swans’ best opportunity early in the second half, getting on the end of a cross Pontus Jansson failed to deal with but dragging his header wide.
The Bees will be relieved to put last season’s play-off failure against Fulham behind them and look ahead to their first top flight campaign in 74 years.
